The summer is almost over and soon the school gates will be open for business. The nights will start drawing in and the whole academic circus starts again! However, within our midst there is a new energy growing and the Cleveden Community Club (CCC) invite you to be part of that energy.
Sunday afternoons do not have to be dull any longer. As from Sunday 22nd August, Cleveden Secondary School will be buzzing with local activity on a bi-weekly basis. The CCC puts on coached football and basketball for the youngsters of Kelvindale. The school pool is open with both adult and child sessions. The gym is available (at a slightly extra cost) to those who wish to get fit. Come along and have a game of table tennis or badminton, followed by a cup of tea! Or come and join a jewellry making or model making group, a book club or just sit and read the paper. Our Community Club is here for you. If you enjoy yourself and would like to come every fortnight, why not join - or better still, volunteer to help it keep going.
The Kelvindale Community Council helped to initiate this local Community Club with the help of our Councillor, Mary Paris and four local lads who were fed up with nothing to do in Kelvindale. Now they are four football coaches as the CCC has a training programme for those who wish to get a coaching qualification in sports. This Autumn we have two young people on a basket ball course and four volunteers for life guards - essential if we are to keep the pool open. Many thanks should go to Glasgow Sports' James Tonner for all his help in setting this up.
We are looking for a qualified gym assistant, so if you have an hour or two to spare on the odd Sunday, please contact us. clevedencommunityclub@hotmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
This week (2nd-6th August) we are running a football club for those aged 5-15. This is free thanks to our Active Schools Co-ordinator, Steven Gilliland. What a guy! Steven has been particularly supportive of the CCC and has helped us help the school get a complete refurbished fitness suite!
So, come along on Sunday 22nd August and have a look round. You never know, there may be something in it for you too.
